Reviews of Bad Movies

So I know awhile back I promised a review of Bloomington, I’ll still write one, I promise, but for now I’d like to take a moment to explain why it has taken me so long to write the review and why I’m just as slow to write a review of Waking Madison.

The movies are both awful.

There I said it.

Both movies really aren’t worth our time…unless you’re doing research on how NOT to make a lesbian movie, let alone a movie.

I’ll get into details about each movie individually later because both have serious flaws. Right now I think the importance of this post is to point out that fans of queer cinema do not nor are they expected to fawn over every gay movie that is released. If we don’t have standards, then we will perpetuate the creation of these movies which should have never been made in the first place. I know that there are equally bad non-queer movies that are made every year, but when there are so few films being released that are queer friendly or include queer content, then we should really be striving for the best in order to break though any boundaries and garner the attention and accolades which GOOD and GREAT queer films deserve. Each sloppy and poorly written film that is made only serves to detract from the genre. And what’s worse is every time one of those films receives a positive review from a queer film blogger.

All that I ask is for you to have standards in order to promote BETTER filmmaking.

  2. megativebc said: Bloomington had so much potential! The actresses were more than decent (and attractive!) but the plot was next to nonexistent. I was annoyed after wasting my time on it.
  3. queerphonics said: what is even sadder is that there are amazing lesbian writers and directors out there and yet they continue to create non-queer movies to appeal to the general movie going mainstream.
